Season 1 Episode 1 & 2 "Children of the Gods"

Part 2

On another planet, SG-1 encounters a group of monks who escort them to the town of Chulak. They find out that Sha're has been possessed by a Goa'uld, and the team is taken prisoner.
The team finds Skaara inside the prison. Jackson explains that it was not Ra who attacked them, but Apophis. Before Skaara and SG-1 can escape, Apophis and the possessed Sha're enter with several guards. Several prisoners are chosen to become hosts to the "children of the Gods". Skaara is among the chosen and is dragged away, screaming frantically for O'Neill. Apophis orders that the rest of the prisoners be killed. The guards prepare to execute his orders, but O'Neill desperately convinces Teal'c, a reluctant guard, that he can save his people. Teal'c believes him and turns on his fellow guards, helping the prisoners escape.O'Neill, Carter, Jackson, and Teal'c lead the prisoners away from Chulak toward the Stargate, with guards pursuing them. Teal'c shows O'Neill that he has a Goa'uld inside him, much to the shock of the others. Near the gate, SG-1 is pinned down by a Goa'uld troop carrier that has transformed into a death glider. (This transformation and the troop carrier appear only in the pilot, and were not continued into the series proper; the 2009 DVD version replaces the transformable ship with a trio of ships that match the later series continuity.) They are rescued by SG-2, who destroy the ship with a rocket launcher. At the gate they find Apophis' troops leaving with the prisoners. O'Neill gains Skaara's attention, but Skaara is already possessed by a Goa'uld. Skaara uses a hand device to knock down O'Neill and escape through the gate. As a battalion of Jaffa attacks their position, Jackson opens the Stargate and leads the prisoners through it. Before Kawalsky steps through the Stargate, he is invaded by an infant Goa'uld, unknown to the others. After the battle, Jackson and O'Neill reaffirm their determination to find Sha're and Skaara and rescue them. O'Neill asks General Hammond to make Teal'c a member of their team, but the General says it is not his decision. As everyone leaves the gate room, Kawalsky's eyes glow like a Goa'uld.

  1. What I like about this episode is how a sorry arch was set up. Also that there were hostages from all over in Aphosis prison it also showed that there were other races involved.

It was a little choppy in the writing so it is not one of my favorites.

  2. I have to say I'm glad on the DVD it is one long "movie" cause I'm not sure if I was watching this on TV I would've been able to sit through a week break and come back going YEAH this show rocks :(

For sure not a favorite of mine I do like when Teal'c joins our side and I loved how we could see through both parts that he was really torn with how things were going.
I have no where to go - broke my heart love Jack's response of "for this you can stay at my place."

Set up a great friendship and team

    1. I like the pilot as well , though I'm glad they eventually changed some of the physics later. Like they stop being cold when the go through the gate , they also changed it to you exit the stargate with the same velocity you entered it instead of being flung out of the gate at times.

I laugh every time when they are defending the gate from waves of Jaffa and there is that one dude throwing rocks.

Maybe they cover this later but how is skarra/klor-el the son of Apophis ? It was some other random gould who chose him

Also how did Apophis dial out from the gate room in when he first came to earth?

Last nitpick lol. When Teal'c switches sides not one of the other Jaffa seems to even have a clue that anything is amiss and they keep shooting the unarmed prisonsers. Maybe they can't see shit in those helmets lol

    2. Lol James too many questions. I think skaar is Apophis son not sure how waiting for a bigger nerd.
I Think apophis had a DHS on his wrist. But I have to again bow down to better nerds on this

    3. I'm gonna go with the Jaffa can't see shit in the helmets because they are literally looking right at Teal'c shooting them and do nothing.

  4. As for apophis dialing out yes he has a mini dhd (lol) on his wrist.

Teal'c switching sides and the other Jaffa not reacting I took it as they were not fully aware that he had turned. He is the First Prime

  5. I think they had to set up so much "how this stuff works" it slowed the story down. Maybe when we watched it the first time we need to absorb the information at that rate - now it's like "okay, okay we get it just get on with the action".

  6. Yeah this is definitely not one of my favorite episodes, but then few pilots are. A first episode sets things up for later, so they are rarely perfect.

I think my favorite line was what Sara said Jacks "For this you can stay at my place."

Also the moment when they run into the Apophis worshipers upon exiting the gate on Chulak and Jack and Carter are busy trying to plan and Daniel's just like, "nah, I'm gonna go talk to them". Very Daniel.

The one thing I was thinking towards the end, was after they closed the iris and the Jaffa slammed into it, theoretically shouldn't there be Jaffa guts on the other side? I mean I get why they didn't show that, because ew...

I'd forgotten how much gear they have on compared to later on. It's like they are carrying giant suitcases on their backs, with giant helmets also. Quite amusing, as opposed to later when they have hardly any.

I had also forgotten how long it takes Daniel to actually dial the gate. Has to look through his notes and figure it out. I was used to later in the show when they are being attacked and dial in five seconds.

    1. Very rarely does a pilot ever end up being my favorite. I basically have to convince myself that I need to sit through 2 or 3 epiosdes before passing judgement (I know me passing judgement shocking!?!).
I have to say there were things I like and things I could have done without
